LET'S FUND YOUR PURPOSE

"Canyon Angels is a sophisticated angel investment group founded in 2015. Seated in the heart of Arizona economic activity, we've been able to help fund approximately 40 different ventures totaling over $4 million in investments from our members. Our primary goal is to fund highly scalable startups that allow accredited investors to diversity their portfolios."

The goal for this project was to create a logo animation symbolizing wealth, prosperity, and journey, all while maintaining the nature of the brand. It took around a week to complete.

REFERENCE

Based on the fundamental nature of a ribbon, I studied the way the pieces would fold, the way they would twirl, and the way they would overlap. I took a piece of paper and tested it to make sure the animation would line up to reality.

Initial CONCEPTS

The initial storyboard involved quite a bit of kinetic shapes. The explosion would initiate the logo appearance, then the beginning of the web browser animation. The client decided to move towards a simpler animation without shapes.

ANIMATION TESTS

Here are some of the animation tests I did to figure out the right direction for the animation. The majority of the tests were to discover the angle or the ribbon, the velocity, and the transition into the logo mark. The final test was used in the final animation. These were all done with Clip Studio Paint and a Wacom Cintiq 16. 

FINAL

The final was created using a combination of hold-frames and easing to match the animation draft. To maintain the fluidity of the ribbon and the shape, the paths were tweaked. After a final pass was completed, the animation was mirrored for symmetry.
